Tourist Tax Needed To Boost Industry Hit By Tourist Tax

 

PUTRAJAYA:   Today experts confirmed the new Tourist Tax imposed on hotel stays is essential if the government wants to boost the travel industry which may suffer a setback from its introduction.

“The Tourist Tax revenue collected will be spent on a special international advertising campaign to entice holidaymakers headed elsewhere to reconsider and pay Malaysia’s new Tourist Tax in addition to the GST, service charge and state tourism taxes,” explained sojourn surcharge fallout analyst, Abdullah bin Bakar.

“The government squeezing an expected RM800mil annually out of local and foreign tourists sounds excessive, but it’s hard to argue against it given the government’s spotless track record of managing money,” said one Malaysian.
