Shah Alam Debate Cancelled For Safety Of Putrajaya Neighbours Only 30km Away
SHAH ALAM: A scheduled debate between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz at Sarangkraf Media Group Shah Alam was cancelled by police last night after fears the event would create a disturbance to Putrajaya neighbours living a mere 30KM from the venue.
“If civilised discourse between about BNM and 1MDB was to unexpectedly deviate from carefully-crafted government-sanctioned scripts, the resulting disturbance would cause those inhabiting the PM’s official residence to suffer sleepless nights,”explained Constable Abdullah Bin Bakar.
“Police are equipped to uphold public order at approved street rallies, demonstrations and football matches, but protecting the rakyat from two geezers arguing is completely beyond our capabilities. It’s easier to just cancel the thing!”
Now prevented from debating face to face, Tun and Nazri have been warned if they try Skype conferenceing it would be considered a threat to national security under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
