KUALA LUMPUR: Yesterday, PAS leader Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang tried to explain his party’s keen interest introducing sharia punishments in Kelantan.
“People shouldn’t oppose hudud,” Hadi told reporters, “these punishments deter criminals because witness requirements are so strict, they are almost impossible to impose. We believe harsh punishments that can rarely if ever be applied will definitely deter Kelantanese rapists and robbers from committing heinous crimes!”
“The thing to remember about hudud is only expert Muslims who agree with introducing it can talk about it. It doesn’t affect non-muslims who should not question and keep quiet about it. It’s not like PAS ever tried to interfere with non-muslim activities like Oktoberfest is it?”
